WHAT GOES INTO A WEDGETAIL?
DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING
Our team of engineers developed the Wedgetail Trade rack to provide a load-carrying solution that was flexible in its uses while still withstanding the demands of daily use. Super strong aluminium was moulded into two profiles for use in the platform frame and for the crossbars. A number of materials were tested before a series of prototypes were manufactured and stress tested on a range of vehicles performing many of the daily tasks a Tradesperson expects of their roof rack.
COMPONENTS
A Wedgetail Trade rack includes high-grade aluminium crossbars and outer frame, stainless steel hardware, and a durable, powder-coated frame. Its modular design allows for adjustable mounting brackets and various accessory mounts. Built for strength, versatility, and aerodynamics, it’s ideal for professional trade and weekend recreational use.
Frame and crossbars
Manufactured using 6060 grade aluminium and extruded in Australia to custom profiles for use as frame components or as crossbars. The frame components are designed for maximum dynamic strength while the crossbars are designed to withstand the direct downwards pressures generated by the weight of items carried on the rack or by accessories fitted on the crossbars.
The frame bars are pre-punched with holes at between 600 and 700 mm spacing for locating of crossbars and fixing of wind deflectors.
All bar components are powder coated in matt black.
Full-Width Roller
The Wedgetail Trade rack is supplied standard with a full width 50mm 316-grade stainless ladder roller, helping you to load awkward materials or ladders onto your roof rack.
Packaging and freight
One of the most significant issues facing our customers with larger vans Australia-wide was the damage and cost of freight across Australia. Given that many roof racks to suit larger vans are longer than three meters, we needed to find a method of sending the new Wedgetail Trade rack across the country with minimal damage. Our engineers came up with a method of disassembling the rack into a smaller box to drastically reduce the freight cost. Reassembly during fitment is simple and quick.
MOUNTING COMPONENTS
The mounting components for a Wedgetail Trade rack are custom-designed for each vehicle so that the platform’s weight and load are distributed over the vehicle roof. The mounting rails are laser cut from 3 mm steel, zinc electro-plated, and powder coated with a matt black finish. Due to the length of many larger vans, mounting rails are manufactured in two pieces.
